Caution: If you are updating an existing QuickLOOKups program you want to be careful not to loose all of the zip/zone chart information you have already entered.
1. Rename your old QuickLOOKups folder to something else (ex. "QuickLOOKups 94").
2. Install the new QuickLOOKups folder.
3. In the "QuickLOOKups 94" folder, in the "QwikData" folder inside the "Files" folder find the four files that start with "zip...". Move them into the new QwikLOOKups folder.
4. Place the four 'zip..." files into the "QwikData" folder inside the "Files" folder in the new QuickLOOKups folder letting them replace the ones that are there.
Installation (when received on floppy disk):
Double click on the "QuickLOOKups...sea" icon on the floppy disk. It will bring up an "install where" window. click on the Drive button (Desktop button under system 7) until the list of item on your hard drive appears in the window. At this point just hit the Extract button. The install program will unstuff a folder called "QwikLOOKups f" and put it on your hard disk.
Getting Started:
1. Open the "QuickLOOKups (95)f" folder inside it are three icons the "QuickLOOKups¬" program, a folder called "Files", and a folder called "Western USA Intl". To find its reference and rate chart files, QuickLOOKups will always look in the same folder in which it resides for a folder called "Files" that contains a folder called "QwikData" . Be very careful that you never move or rename the "Files" folder or the "QwikData" folder.
2. If you live in the Western USA then you will need to open the "Western USA Intl" folder and drag the two "Country..." files and the two "UPSRates..." files into the "QwikData" folder letting them replace the ones that are there. If you live in the Eastern USA then just throw the "Western USA Intl" folder in the trash.
3. If you are running on System 6.09 or below skip this step. System 7.00 (or above) users click once on the "QuickLOOKups" icon. Go up to the File menu and choose "make alias". This will cause a file to be created. Rename the alias ( the file name will be in italics) to "! QuickLOOKups". Drag the "! QuickLOOKups" icon into the System folder then into the Apple Menu Items folder. Then close all of the folders. This will let you open "QuickLOOKups" by just selecting it under the Apple menu.
4. Double click on the "QuickLOOKups" icon. When the QuickLOOKups USA screen comes up choose "Handling Charges" from the "UPS" menu. Fill in the handling charges information for your company. Hit the Done button when finished.
(Note: if you do not charge any handling charges choose the "Fixed Rate" button and set the amount to 0.00.)
5. Get out your "Ground Service Zone Chart" that you received from UPS. Choose "Edit Zip Code Chart" from the UPS menu. Any zip codes or zones that do not agree with your local chart just double click on and change. Delete any extras or add new one if you need to. (Note do not change the zones numbered above 8, they are Alaska, Hawaii, and the American Islands and will not be in your local chart.)
We would have made this chart for you but it seem that these charts are completely controlled by the local offices of UPS and the national office did not have one that was 100% correct.
6. In September 1993, UPS scrambled the zone charts for Mexico and Canada. There is now a separate chart for each region of the USA. You will need to get the "Service to Canada and Mexico" Rate/Zone Chart from UPS for your region and enter the Intl. zones for Canada and Mexico if you ship to either.
7. That's it. Everything should be ready for you to start enjoying the QuickLOOKups program. No changes should be needed for any of the International Cities and zones (unless UPS adds a few new ones).
8. Get your registration mailed. UPS has changed things up to three times a year. We can not notify you of changes if you are not registered.
9. Scales should be connected to the Mac modem port and set to receive at 9600 baud, 8 data bits, one stop bit, no parity.
